CCTV Footage Expanded

CCTV Footage Expanded
Remote Death

First Discovering the TV

Camera Angles
  • When filming the Tv it is at a low angle as if to show the direction in which the boy is looking and also to go with the movement of the viewers eyes as they would go in a downward motion from the boys face and down towards the TV
  • The boy is filmed from a high angle and therefore now the viewer is in the perspective of the camera which is filming him and therefore we get the shot filmed through two different perspectives rather than just the boys or the CCTV. The switch between real life and filmed life.
  • He is in quite a tight frame and therefore this implies that he is trapped within the room and that he cannot get out.
  • However when filmed on the TV it is a loose framing shot and also with the hole in the ground it shows some way of escaping and therefore the two shots contrast each other quite a lot.
Sound
  • There is the non-diegetic sound of the static as the TV turns on and it is quite loud and therefore this grabs the viewers attention and also makes them jump as it wasn't expected.
  • There is also a score playing in the background which adds to the tension of the scene as it is quite eery along with whats going on.
Editing
  • There are jump cuts between the man and the TV screen which shows the interaction between the two.
  • Continuity editing which is also shown through the time on the screen increasing.
Mise En Scene
  • The tv screen is green and this connotes infection/consumption and this therefore adds to the idea that something isn't right and that danger is present.
  • By having the hole in the shot it shows that something is present there with him as if its not a form of escape then it must be a form of somehow someone getting in there instead.
  • Quite contrasted lighting as there is the strong shadows being created in the background between the lightness of the boy and the darkness of the background creating some perspective as well.
  • The white in the static is extremely bright and this therefore grabs the viewers attention as it is brighter than the rest of the room in contrast.
  • Having all the tools visible to the viewer it suggests that this person isn't going to meet a happy ending and therefore implies that this is a room of death.
  • There is a chair in the shot that either he was sitting on or a chair in which someone could sit on in order to observe whilst he was asleep.
  • Vertical lined composition in order to suggest strength probably not in the protagonist but in the person who put him into the room.
  • There are a few bits of red in the room which connote danger and also stand out prominently from the greens and bright whites that consume the room.
  • There is red visible on the boy and this immediately tells the viewer that he is hurt as the clear definition of the red implies that it is blood that is on him.
  • By having the time moving forward in the corner of the TV its shows that this is pre-recorded as though to set it up as a psychological horror as it raises the question of how was it filmed before it happened.
  • By having the mesh behind him in the second screen shot it connotes the idea of imprisonment and adds to the idea that he cannot escape from the room that he is in.
Camera Angles
  • The camera is now mainly focusing in on the TV and the footage that is happening on it. In the top screen shot it shows the camera at high angle on a canted angle in order to focus solely on the  time moving forward implying that this is pre recorded although it has not yet happened to the boy in the room.
  • The next two screen shots are a wide angle only on the TV screen in order to show the viewer what is going on in the scene that has not happened yet. It is filmed at a slight high angle so that the audience can see down the hole and also see the man climb out of it which would confuse people as they would not know the story of how this had happened.
  • The shot inside the tele is filmed at a high angle in order to do a eye line match with the camera that is recording the footage.
Sound
  • The sound is now on the no diegetic sound of the eery score playing in the background of the scene in order to merge with the events that are taking place in the scene.
Editing
  • Continuity editing is shown through the time on the tv moving forward however the time in the scene isn't that far forward yet.
  • The is also eye line match from the camera to the events that are taking place as we are watching the scene from the point of view of the security camera.
Mise En Scene
  • The scene is now mainly green as the TV screen is an ongoing shot which shows that level of danger is increasing as more green is being presented in the screen and is building up to the main event of the scene.
  • The red is even more prominent in this scene as you can see the red fire extinguisher and various other red objects which shows that they danger is present and that by having most of the dangerous objects in red in connotes the idea that they are used for death and that they are a danger towards the protagonist.
  • The antagonist is dressed in complete black with a hood up with not only acts as a mask in order to hide his identity it also adds an element of mystery towards his character as all throughout the scene you never see his face. Also that he is wearing black also shows the he is a threat towards the other boy that is in the room.
  • By having him climb out of the hole it shows that it is a form of getting in a out for that one person.
  • The boy is dressed in white which connotes that he is innocent and that he has not committed a crime and that this is being done for no reason. Like a sort of SAW themed idea.
  • The TV is being used a source of scaring not only the viewer but also the character as they are seeing their own death play out when it hasn't happened yet.

Why this is a good source of inspiration;
  • By playing out events before they have happened it makes the viewer think how did they do that and plays a little bit on the idea of Psychological Horror and it is making the audience think.
  • The use of the green adds the idea that something is incorrect and also the element of consumption.
  • When the boy looks away the screen changes which relates back to the Weeping Angels as when people look away they move and this is again show in this short clip. So stop motion and jump cuts are a very interesting idea to possibly experiment with.
  • Never showing the antagonist face also adds an element of mystery as nobody knows who they are and therefore it makes it a mystery as well as a horror.
  • Confined rooms seem to be the places where CCTV footage is mainly filmed as shown in my other S.O.I as its normally in dark confined places where the antagonist has no place of escape.
