Sources of Inspiration (Basement Setting)

 Basement Location

A steep stairway as the only entrance/exit of the basement increases the sense of danger and re-enforces the fear of little escape, isolating the victim from the world around them.
(This would be beneficial for us in terms of creating a film opening as it would be easier to attain than a building with a completely isolated  location.)

Enclosed walls and a low ceiling create a fear of entrapment and claustrophobia, acting as a device to remove hope and any communication with freedom.
(This could increase different aspects of fear we can include within our piece, allowing both supernatural and natural fear to occur.)
A separate exit within the basement can act as a sign of hope for the victim and act as another attempt at escape, keeping the audience guessing as to whether they can survive.
(This would increase tension for our scene and easily act as another device to enforce fear. It would also help develop our plot as it would give us a larger possibility of ending upon a cliffhanger.)
