Dead Flowers Foreshadowing

Camera Angle 
  • This is a wide angled shot in order to fit in both the face of the man and also the flowers into the shot. However he has been framed very tightly in the shot and therefore it is as though he is trapped within the scene and that whatever has happened is something that he can't get away from as not only is he trapped in the shot, he's also trapped in the room.
  • In the bottom shot his hand doesn't even look like a part of his body as though he has no emotional attachment to these flowers. Weren't from a loved one.
Editing
  • They do from having a deep depth of field straight to focusing in on the flowers and making it a short depth of field.
  • Continuity editing in order to show even through the dead flowers that time is moving and that time has definitely moved on since he had been in the hospital.
Sound
  • There is diegetic sound just before this shot of him calling out someones name.
  • Then in the bottom shot there is further diegetic sound of the petals on the flower crunching as he rubs them between his fingers.
Mise En Scene 
  • He is creating a diagonal line with his head as though something isn't right and the whole situation is strange as in a hospital if the flowers died then they would be taken away and replaced. Also when he called out nobody ran in or replied back to his call.
  • The flowers are dead which means that they have been left there for a long time implying that something serious has happened within the hospital that nobody could tend to them. However seeing he is still in the hospital means that it could've happened in the hospital. Could be foreshadowing the idea of death.
  • He is wearing a green wristband around his wrist indicating consumption or health and therefore this means that he is in the hospital due to either injury or illness. 
  • The flowers are also turning green, like a mouldy/rotting green. The sign of green.
  • The room is blue and the scene seems to have a blue tint as if in a dream state which he thinks that he could've fallen into.
  • He has blue eyes which could indicate innocence and that he isn't a bad person. Main protagonist.
  • The flowers are definitely portraying the idea of death with the withering, green, crumbling and the idea that they are rotting. Huge foreshadowing towards the rest of the TV show. They are dead but at the same time they aren't as there are still the colour pigments in the petals.
  • High key lighting as you can see everything in the room is lit up.
  • Short depth of field to show the flowers significance in the shot and that they are there to mean something otherwise the film maker would've put him back into focus.
  • His head it positioned towards the camera but not looking into it taking away any connection with the audience. We are at arms length away from him in the bottom shot.
  • Placed in middle of screen shows his importance.
Going out into the Hallway to Destruction


Camera Angle
  • The same wide angle and the top two screen shots in order to show the entire scene. He is now in a loose shot in order to show that now that he has come out of the room he has room to move down the hallway, show by adding perspective and also by having a deep depth of field.
  • It in the bottom screen shot in is filmed at his eye level so we are the same as him. He is neither more powerful or vulnerable than the audience is.
Editing
  • Continuity editing in order to show him moving from one room to another.
  • Simple editing to not over power the impact of the scene. 
Sound
  • The is the slight diegetic sound of the lights flickering in the hallway but apart from that it is complete silence in order to add impact and also to indicate that there is no one in the hospital apart from him. Adding horror to it.
Mise En Scene
  • In is High Contrast lighting as you can see the strong shadows being cast along the floor in the background and also various lights being on in different rooms.
  • In the top shot you can see the entire scene with out him in and it is chaos. This chaos has been created without anybody being in it by having the papers strewn all across the floor and the bed being left in front of the door. This shows it being the complete opposite to what a hospital should be like. Hospitals are normally organised and the bed wouldnt be left in front of the door as it is a safety hazard. This shows that something devastating and serious has happened because its like every things been thrown all over the place.
  • He is standing in the centre of the shot showing that he is an important character in the show and again he is looking past the camera cutting off that connection with the audience.
  • He is at a quarter turn towards the camera which offers a high degree of intimacy but less emotional involvement with the viewer showing that the director did not want us to be attached to the character or the situation he is in.
  • In the top scene there is one colour of red created by a light which he then shields in the bottom screen shot. This may signify that red is an important colour as it is the only one that stands out really against the dark scene. 
  • He is in a blue shirt which shows his masculinity and also that he is very calm for the situation that he has just woken up to.
  • He has a beard which shows that he has not been tended to in a long time and the fact that a beard has grown shows that he could've been left alone for 1-2 months probably making him very weak.
The Corpse


Camera Angle
  • Another wide angled shot for both of the shots.
  • The top shot is at a slight low angle shot looking up at him, who is looking at something down. This is giving him more power over whatever he is looking at. This shot is quite scary as before you can see what he is looking at it makes the viewer think 'what is he looking at' and then tying it in with the scene around him.
  • The bottom shot is looking down at the mangled body. This is a high angle shot making it look innocent and vulnerable as it is a nurse who worked at the hospital. This then answers what has happened to the hospital and that it was quite a gruesome end. This will make the viewer feel uncomfortable but at the same time intrigued as to how it happened.
Editing
  • Eye line match from the where he is looking to then the shot of the body 
  • Continuity Editing
Sound
  • The diegetic sound of the light flickering is now louder but apart from that it is completely silent. 
Mise En scene
  • The body is red which is clearly indicating blood and flesh and therefore is help the audience properly identify because if it was any other colour it would not immediately mean blood.
  • In the bottom shot theres an empty wheel chair which is kind of creepy as theres something eery about it just sitting in the hall way without anybody in it.
  • The lines of the door make diamonds on his face as though he is trapped in that part of the hallway and she was trapped in the other part of the hallway. She had no escape from whatever attacked her.
  • You can see the emotion in his eyes although they are shadowed because it looks as though he feels for this person and he has also seen this horrifying scene which would scare/make someone feel uncomfortable.
  • The part of the hallway he is in is tinted in the same blue as that in the hospital room that he was in which may mean that he has sort of slipped into that dream like state as though he thinks that he is dreaming.
  • The lines on the door creating diagonals going both ways which shows that now something is definitely wrong and that there is something in the hospital that could be acting as a threat towards him as it managed to kill that woman.
  • The body is clearly lit up by high key lighting in order to make it clearly visible to viewer and that they don't miss it when the shot cuts to it.
  • Shot depth of field around him and a deep depth of field around the woman which is strange as she is more trapped by death where as he can move around and therefore they have subverted the original conventions that depth of field should create.
  • The head is still on the body which is really creepy that the body should be gone and the head is still there attached. Again foreshadowing about later on in the programme. You can only kill the zombies by destroying the brain.
Don't Open Dead Inside


Camera Angle
  • Same wide angled shot for the top and bottom screen shots; staying on eye level with the man but again still looking past the camera in order to still cut off any connection with the audience. We shouldn't feel as though were in his situation.
  • The second screen shot is a close up of the chain on the doors with the plank of wood laid across it, which is again very strange and indicates that something is being locked up in there in order to stop it from getting to anyone else.
Editing
  • Eye line match from him looking at the door to then showing the door in a full shot so that the reader can read what is written on the door.
  • Continuity Editing.
Sound
  • There is the diegetic sounds of something scratching on the door as though it is trying to get out.
  • There is then the slight diegetic sound of the man breathing short breaths showing that he is scared of what is behind the door as he doesn't know what it is.
Mise En Scene 
  • In the bottom scene it is again a short depth of field around him and a tight frame as though whatever is within the room thats locked it is trapping him inside this hospitals and that it is also a threat to him.
  • The writing on the door is in black indicating that whatever is inside the room is a threat to him as it could've been written in blood and this means that he won't die. By writing it in black it makes it look more sinister and adds the fact that this threat is prominent. 
  • There are scratches on the piece of wood thats been put across the door.
  • Out of al the words written on the door the word DEAD stands out the most and this therefore tells the viewer the answer to the destruction and the body in the hallway. Zombies.
  • There are scratches coming round the edge of the door showing that they have tried to get out and have stuck their hands through but they can't get out.
  • Also having sounds coming from the room it subverts the idea that they are dead, and therefore they are the living dead.
